The newborn phase is fleeting, lasting only a few short weeks, and those tiny, once-in-a-lifetime details deserve to be preserved. As a Charlottesville, Virginia newborn photographer, I specialize in capturing the unique traits that make this stage so special—sleepy smiles, gentle yawns, peaceful dreaming, sweet scrunches and stretches, tiny fingers and toes, wispy eyelashes, and soft little dimples that change far too quickly.

My professional newborn photography studio in Charlottesville offers a quiet, calm, and safety-focused experience designed specifically for babies. With hundreds of carefully curated props, wraps, hats, and headbands in a wide range of colors and styles, each session is thoughtfully styled and baby-led (pausing, as needed, for feeding, soothing, and cuddling) to create timeless newborn portraits. These images allow parents to pause time and hold onto the beauty of the newborn days—photographs you’ll cherish as you watch your baby grow into the person they are becoming.

I offer custom newborn photography session options, allowing you to choose what best fits your family’s needs and vision.

FAQ

When Should I book My newborn Session?

I typically only schedule 1-2 newborn sessions a month.  Therefore, the sooner you can contact me to reserve your session time, the better (ideally second or early third trimester).  However, if time has gotten away from you (I get it, expecting and having a baby is a busy, life-changing season!), I still encourage you to reach out.

What is the ideal age for a newborn session?

The newborn phase is fleeting, so I try to get babies in for their sessions between 5-14 days old. I have photographed up to three month-old "geriatric" newborns with success, but as baby reaches 4 weeks, it can be harder to get those sleepy photos. If your baby is already born, please still inquire with me, as it is possible we can work something out and get some lovely photos (just keep an open mind :)

FAQ

What days and times to you do newborn sessions?

I schedule newborn sessions for weekday mornings. This is the time at which most newborns are sleepy and allows us to work with your baby's natural schedule.

How long does a Studio Newborn session last?

I allot 3-4 hours to a standard newborn session, which gives us time to feed and soothe baby as needed and to perfect those sweet baby poses! A mini newborn session is shorter, typically running about an hour.

FAQ

What do I need to bring to my session?

I provide all the props and some light snacks in my studio, space and support for nursing, and extra diapers and wipes in case you are running short when you get here. I encourage you to bring anything you need to be comfortable--keeping in mind that these sessions can be long.  And for baby, please bring a pacifier if he or she takes one, as this can be so, so helpful for soothing during sessions.

What should I wear to my session?

I encourage clients to wear neutral colors with flowing, flattering lines. I offer a styling consult as part of your session package, so please reach out to me to talk about clothing if you aren't sure about something or you want to discuss ideas.  I'm happy to consult on outfit choice!

FAQ

I have an item from home I want to incorporate. Can you accommodate that?

I am generally very happy to accommodate inclusion of special items such as a family quilt or military uniform. I just ask that you give me a heads up to give me time to curate a setting for your special item(s).

Are you trained in newborn safety?

Yes! Your baby's safety is my number one priority. No photo is worth injury to your little one. I have completed newborn safety courses, am CPR certified, and take every precaution to ensure your baby is supported and safe throughout the session. I also clean and disinfect my studio between sessions.

FAQ

Can I bring my Other children to the session

Siblings are welcome in my studio and will need to be included in a newborn studio session with family.  However, I usually schedule the family part of the session for the first hour to allow the non-nursing parent to take siblings out to do something more fun after, as the slow pace of a newborn session can get very boring for small children.

Do you offer lifestyle newborn sessions?

I do not currently offer in-home lifestyle sessions.  However, I have options in my studio for offering more of a lifestyle vibe for your newborn session upon request.
