Charlottesville, Virginia Family Session

I have know Vanessa for years. We sort of grew up together (she's a few years younger than I and was and is very close friends with my youngest sister). She is also a truly lovely person. And that is why it has been a particular joy to see her flourish over the years--to marry her wonderful husband, Micah, and grow their family together. This session was the first opportunity I had to spend a little more time getting to know her husband and two adorable children. Micah is equally as lovely as Vanessa and their little ones are so, so sweet! I was so honored to have the chance to do their session in early June.

It was a warm summer evening at Boar's Head Inn, which is, by the way, one of my favorite Charlottesville, Virginia locations for a family photoshoot. We met up around the pond and caught up for a few minutes (they live a little ways away) as we walked toward the lush open fields. I so enjoyed hearing about their lives in rural Virginia on several acres with room for growing vegetables and animals. We started the photographs in the field (which might just be my favorite place at Boar's head--you just can't beat the light!). From there, we moved to the gravel path and down to the bridge area for individual portraits of the children. Then we made time for Mommy and me and father with children portraits. We ended the session with a seated family set in front of the Boar's Head restaurant. I love the string of lights shining behind them in the early dusk.

This was definitely one of my favorite family sessions and I hope they will enjoy these for years to come!
